Breakfasting Bad...I often enjoy the quiet, listening-room vibe of an acoustic show in a small venue with a modest, polite audience, where you have to deliver some finesse. Last night was NOT one of those nights. Last night was just off-the-hook; a private party outside on the water. It was an old school rock-and-roll classic throw-down; a hard-partying crowd that was dancing so furiously, they kept going even when the power went out. Our illustrious drummer just kept the beat going in the dark until the backup generators kicked in. That was a great moment; drums don’t need electricity, and neither do scores of drunken college gals, literally “dancing in the dark”. I just grabbed a beer and stood watching with a huge grin. This went on for several minutes until the backup generator kicked in, but only the one for the audio, so until they got the lights happening, we played in the dark. We were under a tent, but I found a little shaft of moonlight I could step into for any lead guitar excursions that require actually being able to see what in hell you’re doing. This entire scenario played out not once, not twice, but three times. You can’t write this stuff! We had a blast, and they wouldn’t let us go, which is always great. I love those late jams, and I am decidedly NOT one of those performers who prefers a professional detachment by not partaking in everything that’s going on during the party. You gotta get in the trenches! But I’ve never had a more intense live schedule than the past year, and I’ve really learned the importance of sleeping well and eating right. I am BEAT this morning, and two more days to go until I have a few days off. So I am about to embark on my new favorite pastime, which is the real topic of this little blurb. This morning I am online scouring the best place for an awesome, healthy brunch. No, not the champagne brunch, I mean really focusing on the food. I will travel forty miles if I have to, once I’ve located the right place with the right menu, where I can sit alone with a newspaper and just refuel. I just found a place with a very distinctive raw seafood/fresh fruit combo, and I’m out the door! If you don’t already do this, I implore you to try it, even if just once a week. You really “are what you eat”, as the saying goes. Which becomes even more crucial when you realize that you really are also everything you did last night. Leave Comment: |
